One of the most important aspects of being an active member of the Church is being generous with your love, time and money, just as Christ was with the sick and the needy. Elmwood West United Methodist Church hosts mission trips and volunteer initiatives to share God’s word and show his kindness to Abilene, TX and needy communities.

Elmwood West has adopted Reagan Elementary and we are supporting the teachers and students by providing school supplies as needed and volunteering to help when we are called. We are planning to expand our role and in the future and have a more physical presence on the campus as tutors and readers. We are excited to be able to help this school as they have no PTO or other parent group.
Our church is very active at Methodist Food Pantry. In addition to food and monetary donations, members of the church work at the food pantry on the 3rd and 4th Tuesday of each month helping to distribute food. Members who are involved in this ministry work find it very rewarding. We are always in need of more volunteers.
LiThe mission of Meals on Wheels Plus is to enhance the quality of life for seniors and other eligible adults by providing nutritionally balanced meals and supportive services.” The meals are delivered to the homes by approximately 700 trained volunteers. Meals on Wheels serves people who live in Abilene, Ballinger, Eula, Hamby, Hawley, Hodges, Potosi, and Winters.
There are several Meals on Wheels volunteers at Elmwood West. Anyone of them would be happy to assist you in getting involved in this mission field.
UMW is a group of women from the church, who meet monthly for a Bible study and to plan on how they can help the community, locally and worldly. The UMW has each year, for the past 50+ years, held a garage sale to raise funds to support the needs of the church and the community. The garage sale is a time of fellowship, with many church members pitching to make this a successful outreach to our community.
The oldest booth at the West Texas Fair and Rodeo is the Elmwood West Food Booth. The United Methodist Men opened the Food Booth in the 50’s to help support the needs of the new church. The Fair Booth has become a project of the church and is run by the Fair Booth Committee. Working at the fair booth is a time of fellowship and community outreach. The money raised is used to fund project in the church, financial support for the Methodist Food Pantry and other mission fields in our community. Everyone is invited and encourages to participate.
